Cannes, Le Cannet, Mandelieu-la-Napoule and Mougins all belong to the arrondissement of Grasse, one of the two arrondissements of the Alpes-Maritimes. The sub-prefecture is in Grasse, ten minutes from our office.
Worth knowing before you make the trip: the Grasse sub-prefecture is open to the public Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 1pm only, and the counter deals with information and with France Titres matters. A digital access point is available there for people who need help with online procedures. Most residence applications themselves go through the ANEF portal.

Local reality
A great many Cannes residents arrived as part-time owners and stayed. That transition, from visitor to resident, is the single most common thing we are asked to sort out here, and it usually starts later than it should.
Yachting, hospitality and events employ people on contracts that do not fit neatly into the standard residence categories. The paperwork follows the contract, and the contract is often unusual.
Festival season, high season, then a scramble. Starting a renewal two months before expiry is the legal minimum, not the sensible one.
